Kip’s Castle is a 10-acre (40,000 m2) estate

Nestled on the ridge of First Mountain, this property is on the border of Montclair and Verona townships. The 9,000-square-foot mansion was constructed in the style of a medieval Norman castle. A 6,000-square-foot carriage house is located adjacent to the main mansion. Founded by the Kip family in 1910, the Kips’s Castle was sold to new owners in 2012.

The estate is owned by the Essex County. In May 2015, the Essex County announced that it would host two free public tours of the castle, on Thursdays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. Visitors can tour the castle and its park. The castle is located at 22 Crestmont Road. The guided tours will begin at 7 p.m. The park will remain open until late December.

It is a replica of a medieval Norman castle

This impressive castle was built shortly after the Norman Conquest of England in 1068. It was originally a motte-and-bailey, or earthen mound topped with a wooden palisade, to defend strategic points and approaches. It was later rebuilt in stone and fortified during the Hundred Years War. The castle was owned by the Greville family until 1978 when the company that now owns Tussauds bought it.

The motte and bailey style was introduced by the Normans, who also introduced military architecture to Britain. These castles had a mound surrounded by a wooden palisade and a ringwork, which protected the castle from attack. By the early 12th century, the motte and bailey style had been developed and was common in many parts of the British Isles. See This Article

It is decorated for the annual Essex County Historic Holiday House Tour

The Kip’s Castle in Verona, NJ, is a unique example of medieval stone architecture. It features a Medieval style exterior and was built by textile tycoon Frederic Kip between 1902 and 1905. Kip originally called the castle the Kypsburg estate. The structure is built of trap rock and sandstone.

The Holiday House Tour is a self-guided tour through historic homes. This event will feature 17 homes throughout Essex County. The Garden Club of Montclair supplies the holiday decor at Crane House. Other historic sites include the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Salvatorian Fathers Catholic Church. It also features musical performances and educational programs. The tour is open to the public on the weekend of Dec. 4 and 5.

It is planned to become a cultural resource center

Essex County plans to restore Kip’s Castle and turn it into a cultural resource center. The estate was purchased in 2007 through Green Acres grants and Open Space Trust funds. The renovations will include a fully accessible, multi-use building for the public, which will also house a gallery. The park will also be home to special events, such as free music performances.

The estate is set on a ridge of First Mountain in Montclair, New Jersey. The stone Norman castle features deep set stained glass windows, corner turrets, eight fireplaces, and a two-story carriage house. The Kip family built the castle as a private residence for their son, Frederic Ellsworth Kip, a textile inventor and industrialist. Once the restrictions on access are lifted, the castle will be reopened to the public for tours. Visit This Website
